About & How to Play Solitaire

"Emma's afternoon hit a wall at exactly 3:17 PM. Her inbox chimed again... Minimized the spreadsheet and opened Solitaire... The first shuffle felt like a deep breath." This story, shared by one of our players, captures the essence of Solitaire: a perfect, quiet escape. Just like Emma, you can step away from the buzz and find a moment of calm focus. A simple deck of cards can truly turn the tide of a long day.

What is Solitaire?

Solitaire is a classic single-player card game. The objective is to sort a standard 52-card deck into four foundation piles, one for each suit, in ascending order from Ace to King. Every card you successfully place feels like a small, satisfying victory.

How to Play

  1. The Setup: The game begins with a shuffled deck. Cards are dealt into seven tableau piles, with the first pile having one card and each subsequent pile having one more than the last. Only the top card of each pile is face-up. The remaining cards form the stock pile.
  2. Making Moves: You can move face-up cards between the tableau piles. A card (or a sequence of cards) can be placed on another card if it is of the opposite color and one rank lower (e.g., a red 6 on a black 7).
  3. Building Foundations: The four empty foundation piles at the top are for building your suits. Start with an Ace for each suit, then build up in sequence: 2, 3, 4, and so on, up to the King.
  4. Using the Stock: If you run out of moves on the tableau, click the stock pile to draw a new card (this version uses a "Draw 1" rule, making it more approachable). This card can be played on the tableau or a foundation pile.

How to Win

You win the game when you have successfully moved all 52 cards into the four foundation piles, each correctly stacked from Ace to King. The game ends when no cards are left on the tableau or in the stock pile.

Tips for a Better Game

  • Prioritize Aces: Move Aces and Twos to the foundation piles as soon as they become available.
  • Uncover Hidden Cards: Make moves that will flip over face-down cards in the tableau. This opens up more possibilities.
  • King's Corner: Try not to empty a tableau column unless you have a King ready to place in the empty spot.
  • Use Undo: Don't be afraid to use the "Undo" button to backtrack if a move doesn't work out.
